Water-Damaged Laptop Repair in Accra
Liquid damage is time-sensitive. Water, tea and soft drinks start corroding the board as soon as power flows through it, and the damage can keep spreading even if the laptop still seems to work. The sooner it is switched off and cleaned, the better the chance of a full repair — and of saving your files.

Signs of liquid damage
- The laptop won't turn on after a spill
- The keyboard or touchpad stops working, or keys type by themselves
- Lines on the screen, or no display, after a spill
- The laptop works but switches off randomly or gets hot
- The battery stops charging
Common causes
Short circuit
Liquid bridges connections on the board while it is powered, which can burn components.
Corrosion
Even after drying, minerals and sugar left behind corrode the board over days and weeks.
Sugary drinks
Tea with sugar, soft drinks and juice leave sticky residue that is worse than plain water.
What to do immediately after a spill
- Switch the laptop off immediately — hold the power button if you need to.
- Unplug the charger and any USB devices.
- Open the laptop and turn it upside down, like a tent, so the liquid drains away.
- Don't switch it on to test it, and don't charge it.
- Don't use a hair dryer or leave it in the sun, and don't rely on rice — it doesn't remove liquid or residue from the board.
- Bring it to us as soon as you can.
How we fix it at PhGhana
- Free diagnosis: we open the laptop and inspect the board, keyboard and connectors for liquid and corrosion.
- We clean the affected areas to remove liquid residue and corrosion, then dry the board thoroughly.
- We test components before powering on, then repair or replace whatever was damaged — for example the keyboard, the charging circuit or board components.
- If the laptop can't be saved, we can often still recover your files from the drive.
Cost and repair time
Diagnosis is free. Our service charge starts from ₵80, depending on the job, and the part needed is charged at current market price. We tell you the full cost before we start — nothing is done without your approval. If we can't fix it, you pay nothing.
Liquid damage repairs typically take 2–4 days, depending on how far the liquid reached.
Frequently asked questions
Should I put my wet laptop in rice?
No. Rice doesn't remove liquid or residue from inside the laptop, and waiting delays proper cleaning while corrosion spreads. Switch it off, drain it and bring it in.
My laptop still works after the spill. Do I need a repair?
It is worth having it checked. Liquid residue keeps corroding the board, and laptops often fail days or weeks later. Cleaning it early costs less than repairing corrosion damage later.
Can you recover files from a water-damaged laptop?
Often, yes. Even when the board is badly damaged, the drive holding your files is frequently fine and the data can be recovered.
