Laptop Keyboard Replacement in Accra

Dead keys, sticky keys or a keyboard that types on its own make a laptop hard to use. Often the keyboard needs replacing, but sometimes the fault is a loose cable, liquid on the board or a software setting — we check before replacing anything.

We replace keyboards for HP, Dell, Lenovo, Acer, Asus and Apple MacBook laptops at our workshop in Accra.

Signs your laptop keyboard needs repair

Common causes

Liquid spills

Water, tea and soft drinks are the most common cause. Sugary drinks leave residue that makes keys sticky or shorts the keyboard.

Wear

Heavily used keys wear out, especially on older laptops.

Loose or damaged ribbon cable

If a group of keys stops working together, the keyboard cable may be loose or damaged.

Software or driver problem

If the keys work in the BIOS setup screen, the problem is usually Windows, a driver or a setting — no new keyboard needed.

What you can check first

  1. Connect a USB keyboard so you can keep working in the meantime.
  2. Restart and press the BIOS key (often F2, F10, Del or Esc). If the keyboard works there, it is likely a software problem.
  3. In Windows, make sure Filter Keys and Sticky Keys are off (Settings → Accessibility → Keyboard).
  4. After a spill: switch off, unplug, turn the laptop upside down to drain and bring it in. Don't keep typing to test it.

How we fix it at PhGhana

  1. Free diagnosis: we find out whether it is the keyboard, the cable, liquid damage or software.
  2. We source the correct keyboard for your model and layout, and give you the full cost.
  3. On some laptops the keyboard is fixed to the top case (palm rest). We tell you if your model needs the full top-case part, as that affects the cost.
  4. We test every key and the backlight before you collect it.

Cost and repair time

Diagnosis is free. Our service charge starts from ₵80, depending on the job, and the keyboard is charged at current market price. We tell you the full cost before we start — nothing is done without your approval. If we can't fix it, you pay nothing.

Most keyboard replacements are done the same day or within 24 hours when the keyboard is in stock. If it needs to be sourced for your model, we tell you how long first.

Frequently asked questions

Can a single laptop key be replaced?

Sometimes a keycap can be refitted or replaced if only the clip is broken and the key itself still works. If keys don't respond at all, the whole keyboard is replaced.

Why does my laptop type by itself?

Usually liquid damage or a faulty keyboard, sometimes a stuck key. Stop using the keyboard and bring it in; a USB keyboard lets you keep working meanwhile.

Can I just use an external keyboard instead?

Yes, as a temporary fix. But if the fault came from a spill, liquid can keep corroding the board, so it is worth having it checked.

How much does it cost?

Diagnosis is free. Our service charge starts from ₵80, depending on the job, and the keyboard is charged at current market price. We tell you the full cost before we start — nothing is done without your approval. If we can't fix it, you pay nothing.
